Find Your Power Points: National Geographic Photography

Produced in Partnership With National Geographic

Do your photographic compositions have the tendency to feel flat and boring? Keep in mind — putting the subject of your photo dead center isn’t the best way to get an interesting picture. Instead, put your subject near one of the four “power points” of a frame.

By finding your power points, and hitting these positions, you can broaden your image to:

  • provide more environmental context
  • dramatically alter the mood of your shot

Watch the video below for a more in-depth explanation about framing an interesting shot, hosted by National Geographic Photographer Joel Sartore.
